From practice to policy: designing and managing better health systems
In its work with governments, hospitals, and academic institutions around the world, HMI has often witnessed how broader policies and reforms of a country affect individual medical institutions. Drawing form this experience, HMI has been working with partners like Monitor Group to analyze global health care trends and help governments design better policies.

 
 

Partners from three continents ally for education reform
HMI has forged an alliance for medical education reform with Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU), in anticipation of widespread changes in Japan’s medical education and health care systems. The program will be aided by the input of Ludwig Maximilians University, a longtime HMI partner in Germany.

 
 

Students from U.S., Taiwan see how systems shape medicine
An exchange program between Harvard Medical School and National Taiwan University College of Medicine let four students from each school complete clinical rotations abroad. Beyond the clinical knowledge the students gained, they were able to see how cultural, organizational, and regulatory factors shape the day-to-day practice of physicians.
