From
practice to policy: designing and managing better health systems
In its work with governments, hospitals, and academic institutions
around the world, HMI has often witnessed how broader policies and
reforms of a country affect individual medical institutions. Drawing
form this experience, HMI has been working with partners like Monitor
Group to analyze global health care trends and help governments
design better policies.
Partners
from three continents ally for education reform
HMI has forged an alliance for medical
education reform with Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU),
in anticipation of widespread changes in Japans medical education
and health care systems. The program will be aided by the input
of Ludwig Maximilians University, a longtime HMI partner in Germany.
Students
from U.S., Taiwan see how systems shape medicine
An exchange program between Harvard Medical School and National
Taiwan University College of Medicine let four students from each
school complete clinical rotations abroad. Beyond the clinical knowledge
the students gained, they were able to see how cultural, organizational,
and regulatory factors shape the day-to-day practice of physicians.
