Hospital network in Thailand extends its partnership with HMI
On January 22, HMI signed an agreement with the Phya Thai Hospital Group (PYT) in Bangkok, Thailand to embark on a long-term partnership that will focus on clinical services, education, and quality management across its entire hospital network. The Phya Thai Heart Center, located within one of PYT’s hospitals, has worked with HMI since its founding in 1998 to develop quality management, nursing, and clinical programs. The new agreement will extend HMI’s role to PYT’s three hospitals in Bangkok.

HMS Dean Joseph Martin gets firsthand tour of Indian health care
Dr. Joseph B. Martin, Dean of Harvard Medical School, recently spent two weeks in India meeting HMI’s Indian partners and learning about their accomplishments, concerns, and challenges as well as their hopes for Indian health care. This visit marked the first time the dean traveled to India to see firsthand the fruits of these ongoing collaborations. It was also an opportunity for Martin to gain a better understanding of India from an historical, cultural and societal perspective.

Faculty from Dresden put theory into practice in Harvard Macy program
After working with HMI for several years in a partnership to reform its undergraduate medical curriculum, faculty members from Carl Gustav Carus Medical Faculty of the Technical University Dresden (TUD) are also getting some input from the Harvard Macy Institute. To get a new perspective on this project, three faculty members are participating in the Harvard Macy Program for Physician Educators, which met in Boston January 12-22 and will convene again for five days in May.
