In this issue we are pleased to bring you the exciting news that Dubai Healthcare City will launch a world-class tertiary care teaching hospital. This story has been developing for several months, as faculty from HMI, health care leaders in Dubai, a team of architects from a top firm, and clinical and administrative experts from throughout the Harvard medical community have worked together to design every component of the University Hospital.

Podcast: Dr. Kenneth Sands speaks about the Joint Commission
At HMI's "World-Class Medicine" conference in September, Dr. Kenneth Sands, Senior Vice President of Health Care Quality at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, spoke about changes in how the Joint Commission (formerly known as the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) evaluates hospital performance. In this audio clip, he describes the tracer methodology now used by Joint Commission during site surveys, and talks about how his hospital is benefitting from the evaluation process.
