Globalization was the central theme of a recent seminar organized by HMI at the New Research Building on the Harvard Medical School campus. Robert K. Crone, MD, HMI President and Chief Executive Officer, chaired a series of presentations illustrating developments in the global health care community, as viewed through the lens of HMI’s work with its institutional partners. Crone was joined by a cadre of HMI team members who discussed initiatives ongoing in India, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. |

HMS scientist sees Gulf Region as key to decoding autism mystery
Health care leaders, scientists, and top clinicians from the Gulf Region gathered in Dubai in June for an education event, led by Christopher Walsh, focused on autism and related disorders. There has been as yet no comprehensive study of the prevalence of autism in the United Arab Emirates, but researchers suggest it is higher than the global average of around one in 250 children. |

PABSELA completes first stem cell research training program for Latin American investigators
The Program for the Advancement of Biomedical Sciences Education in Latin America (PABSELA) has held the inaugural edition of an intensive stem cell training course for young Latin American scientists. Twenty-three students hailing from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico were selected to participate in laboratory training and attend lectures and seminars led by top faculty drawn from Harvard Medical School and other institutions. |
